PLAYUP IN THE INHOUSE PROGRAM

Play-up is defined as a player moving from his/her given age group into any older age group.  Play-up is strictly forbidden in the InHouse Program.  MASC does not endorse Play-up except for extreme cases.  Play-up at this age is not warranted based on the player’s mental & physical development.  The programs are specifically designed and mandated by the United States Youth Soccer Ass’n (USYSA).

The PA West Age Charts are provided by the USYSA and dictate a player’s given age group.  The age charts are designed to encompass not just Western PA but all of the United States.  They do not follow a given school system age break because school systems in other parts of the States are not consistent with this portion of the U.S. or do not operate in the traditional school system breakdown. Some schools run programs well into the summer, or run programs for 8-10 weeks with intermittent breaks of 2-3 weeks at a time.  The USYSA Age Chart is designed to break the age groups by mental & physical development.  Therefore, any family moving from PA to TX will be embraced by the same age group under the USYSA.

Play-up is considered for two reasons only:

  1. The player is a physical detriment to one's own age group (occasionally)
  2. The player has extreme skill development that is exceptional to one's own age group (very rare or never)

No parent can dictate play-up to the Program.  Play-up is considered ONLY by the Age Group Commissioners of both the given age group and the older age group.  Play-up is then discussed with the coach of the team, the In-House Coordinator and President of the Club.  Play-up must be agreed to by all parties for consideration and would be effective the following season.  All agreement is made prior in writing, with sign-off by all parties.  Play-up may only be considered if there is space in the age group being considered for transfer.  No player from a younger age group will replace a player in his/her given age group if the team rosters are at maximum levels.  Finally, play-up must be initiated with a Play-up consent form (provided only by a Board of Director of Board Staff under consent of all parties), which must be notarized and signed by both parent and Club.

No play-up form will be accepted under any other terms or conditions.
