For those of you who don't know Andy, he is the adult referee who is usually at the fields on Saturdays, and for the last 17 years he has volunteered his time to help in any capacity.
Andy was the In-house Commissioner for most of these 17 years, and was directly responsible for much of the progress of the Club.
Andy and his wife Bonnie have two sons, and they joined the club when their sons were in the U-6 League.
Their two sons are now in college.
Andy continues to referee.
Andy has done a lot of the field maintenance, built the concession stand, and redrafting of the Club's constitution.
You name it, Andy would pitch in whenever and wherever needed.
In light of this outstanding display of "volunteering", the MASC Board voted to establish "The Andy Popko Spirit of Volunteering Award" in his honor.
Therefore, when you stop by the concession stand for your hot dog or kielbasa after the game, please take time to read the plaque and you'll see the first inductee.
The MASC Board Of Directors would like to thank Andy and Bonnie Popko for their contribution of time and dedication to the Mars Area Soccer Club. Thank you!
